Association of Veterinary Doctors of the Czech Republic, z. s.

The Association of Veterinary Doctors (AVL) is a voluntary professional organization uniting veterinarians working within the territory of the Czech Republic. It was founded at the end of 1992 and officially registered by the Ministry of the Interior on February 1, 1993. Since 2014, AVL has been registered as an association under the Civil Code of the Czech Republic.

The aim of AVL is to strengthen the professional and social status of veterinarians and to protect their economic and social rights and interests.

Membership

Regular membership is open to individuals who:

  • have obtained a university degree in veterinary medicine from a Czech university or a foreign university recognized by Czech law,
  • intend to work within the Czech Republic,
  • apply for inclusion in the official AVL member list.

Supporting membership is available to individuals interested in AVL’s mission who wish to support its activities.

Organizational structure

The main governing document of AVL is the Statutes, supplemented by the Organizational Rules, Procedural Rules, and Electoral Rules.

The General Assembly is the highest body of AVL, composed of delegates elected by regional organizations. It elects the presidency, supervisory board, and conciliation committee.

The Presidency is the executive body between assemblies. It maintains the main member registry and elects from among its members the president, vice-president, and treasurer.

The President is the statutory representative of AVL and acts externally on behalf of the organization. In their absence, they are replaced by the vice-president. The treasurer manages AVL’s finances.

Regional organizations

AVL consists of 10 regional branches, organizing members by location. Each regional organization has its own executive board and manages funds entrusted to it by AVL.

Members elect delegates to the general assembly and representatives to the executive board and audit committee.

Funding and Recognition

All elected positions are honorary (voluntary). Exceptional service to the organization may be recognized with honorary membership.

AVL is funded through membership fees, donations, and other income.

Cooperation and international role

AVL plays an important role in professional discussions and legislative processes regarding veterinary practice in the Czech Republic. Key partners include:

  • State Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic
  • Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons of the Czech Republic

AVL is a member of the European Association of State Veterinary Officers (EASVO), which is part of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE).
